Privacy Policy
Effective October 7, 2026. Applies to the Newsdeck website (newsdeck.oppwise.com) and the Newsdeck app for iPhone.
Newsdeck is a news reader from Oppwise, a Sirius Capital Group LLC company ("we", "us"). It shows headlines and short summaries from publicly available news feeds and links to the original articles on the publishers' own sites. This policy explains what information Newsdeck uses, why, and the choices you have.
The short version
- Newsdeck has no sign-up. We do not ask for your name, email address or phone number.
- Your columns, saved stories and settings are kept on your own device.
- We do not show advertising, and we do not use advertising or tracking tools.
- We do not sell or rent information about you.
What stays on your device
Your decks and columns, the feeds you add, your saved stories, the stories you have read, and your settings are stored on your device: in your browser's storage on the website, and in the app's own private storage on iPhone. In the app, when you save a story, Newsdeck also keeps a text-only reading copy of the article on your device so you can read it without a connection. We do not receive or keep a copy of your setup, your saved stories, what you have read or your settings. Loading the news does involve feed addresses: on the website, the addresses of the feeds in your columns are requested through our feed service, and in the app a few directory feeds are too, as explained under "How news feeds are loaded" below. If you delete the app or clear your browser's data, your setup is removed from that device. Settings > Export setup lets you keep a copy yourself.
Anonymous usage count
To count how many devices use Newsdeck, an open copy checks in with our server every few minutes using a random code created on your device. The code is not your name or email, and it is not shared or used for advertising. With it, our server keeps: whether it is the website or the app, the country our hosting provider reports for the connection, when the code was first and last seen, and on which days it was used. These records are deleted after 13 months.
To stop this, untick "Include this device in Newsdeck's anonymous usage count" in Settings. That also deletes this device's records from our server.
How news feeds are loaded
On the website, feeds are requested through the Newsdeck feed service, which fetches them from the publishers on your behalf. The service sees which feed addresses are requested, as any web server does, and briefly keeps copies of public feeds so publishers are not asked repeatedly. Addresses of feeds you add yourself are not stored in our records or shown publicly.
In the iPhone app, your device fetches feeds directly from the publishers. There is one exception: a few feeds in Newsdeck's own directory still use older unsecured (http) addresses, which iPhone apps are not allowed to fetch. For those directory feeds only, the app asks the Newsdeck feed service to fetch them, so the service sees which of those feeds are requested. Feeds you add yourself in the app are only ever fetched by your device, never by our service.
When your device or our service contacts a publisher, that publisher receives the request as it would from any reader, under its own privacy policy.
Opening stories
Stories open on the publisher's own website: in your browser on the website, and in Apple's Safari view inside the app. What the publisher collects there is governed by the publisher's policy, not ours.
Weather and "My location"
Weather forecasts come from MET Norway (the Norwegian Meteorological Institute) through the Newsdeck service. If you choose My location for a weather column, Newsdeck uses your device's location, with your permission, or, if you do not share it, your approximate area as worked out by our hosting provider from your internet connection. The position is rounded to about one kilometre, used only to fetch the forecast, and not stored. Forecasts for the same area may be kept briefly so they can be shared between readers nearby.
"Ask your AI"
The sparkle button prepares a question about a story (its headline and link) for you to paste into an AI assistant of your choice, or to share through your phone's share menu. Newsdeck does not send anything to any AI service itself. If you paste or share the question, the service you choose handles it under its own terms.
Services we rely on
- Cloudflare hosts Newsdeck and its feed service. Like any host, it processes connection information, such as your internet address, to deliver the service and protect it from abuse.
- Google supplies the typeface and the small website icons shown next to stories. Your device requests these from Google, which receives your internet address and, for the icons, the publisher's web address.
- MET Norway supplies weather forecasts. It receives the rounded position from our service, not from your device.
Children
Newsdeck is a general news reader and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Your choices and rights
Because Newsdeck has no accounts, the only information we keep about a device is the anonymous usage record described above, which you can switch off and delete in Settings at any time. If you have a question about your information, or wish to exercise any right you have under the law where you live, write to support@oppwise.com.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Newsdeck handles information, we will update this page and its effective date. Significant changes will also be noted in the app or on the website.
